Windows Azure provides a platform as a service (PaaS) that can be leveraged to provide cloud-based hosting capabilities for applications on a cost-per-usage basis. Since its community technology preview (CTP) launch in October 2008 and official release in January 2010 the platform has evolved to add new features and capabilities.
Windows Azure web roles and worker roles can be used to host web applications and background processes. Windows Azure storage services provide binary blob storage, non-relational table storage and a durable queue service as well as file based drive storage. SQL Azure provides relational database capabilities that allow for easier migration of on-premise applications to the cloud.
This seminar provides detailed in-depth coverage of the Windows Azure platform for developers and architects. The demo-centric presentation will use a number of case studies and scenarios to highlight how the capabilities of Windows Azure can be leveraged. This workshop has been developed by and is taught by Alan Smith, one of the lead contributors to the Azure development community. Alan is a member of the Microsoft Application Server Group advisor team and provides direct feedback to the development teams on emerging Azure AppFabric technologies, and has held Microsoft's most valuable professional (MVP) award for seven years.
